Arkadia bags Completed: July 2008
Title: Arkadia promo bags
Media: serigraphy on textile bags
Client: ARKADIA Oy International Bookshop
Comments: Assignment that followed the webdesign for the international bookshop. Image of a vintage bicycle with books on the carrier applied by silkscreen on textile bags. Both the client and I don't like nor use cars but prefer two wheels instead so the image of a bike seemed perfect for the job.

Title: arkadiabookshop.fi
Media: webdesign
Client: ARKADIA Oy International Bookshop
Comments: Website designed for a small, recently opened bookshop in Helsinki's old neighbourhood Töölö. The shelf-like structure is elegant but flexible and allows for unlimited expansion and easy modification in the future.

Title: Birds
Media: digital photography
Client: self-published
Comments: Continuation of a series that I started around 2002. Currently the oldest photograph in the set is from 2004. I occasionally photograph other dead animals but I focus on birds – they are the most common and visible deaths surrounding us. Other deaths, such as humans or pets, are quickly taken care and disposed of but the presence of dead birds (the animals most assimilated with urban life) is accompanying us on a daily basis. By aestheticizing them to some extend by means of composition I intend to 'make the audience look' at something they otherwise wouldn't and perhaps provoke a moment of reflection.

Title: Pixelache University
Media: offset print, silkscreen
Client: PixelACHE Festival of Electronic Art and Subcultures
Comments: Concept and graphic design for the 2008 edition of Pixelache festival. Produced items included a poster, local flyer, international flyer, brochure and bag.

Title: Tuntematon Sotilas
Media: offset print
Client: The Finnish National Theatre
Comments: Brochure accompanying the theatre play Unknown Soldier based on the historical book by Vaino Linna. On the cover there is a list of actors' names presented in a way associated with military organisation. Above the list is a symbolic instruction of how to tear open holes in the brochure in order to be able to "hide" from the "war" taking place on the stage. Concept of the brochure developed together with director Kristian Smeds, Ville Hyvönen and Aina Bergroth.

Title: TypoTrip - Typography on the Road ( typotrip.wordpress.com )
Media: digital photography, blog
Client: self-published
Comments: Self-made lettering, improvised signs, coincidental designs and random messages; sweet shapes and big words lost in the void of time; also eroded forms, outdated design trends and letters that have seen a better day. Or simply a collection of strange, worn-down, outdated, intriguing, self-made, out-of-place and interesting letters, words and messages from all over the world. A blog dedicated to typography on the road.

Title: Lost & Found ( flickr.com/photos/wojtekmejor )
Media: digital photography
Client: self-published
Comments: This is a series of photographs that I was working on throughout the winter of 06/07 in Helsinki. I noticed people loose hundreds of gloves on the streets here, and the interesting thing is that often other people, upon finding, pick them up from the floor and place them somewhere visible. In many cases this makes the gloves look very dramatic or comic.

Title: Nordic VJ Meeting
Media: print, silkscreen
Client: PixelACHE Festival of Electronic Art and Subcultures
Comments: Graphic design for the 2007 edition of the festival which included the following items: flyer, poster, 70 page publication, print ad, t-shirt and promo bag. The web design I also did is most probably not going to be implemented.

Title: Locating Helsinki ( locatinghelsinki.wordpress.com )
Media: webdesign, digital photogrpahy
Client: self-published
Comments: A blog established for the aim of documenting different places and aspects of the Helsinki Metropolitan Area and promoting alternatives to commercially oriented ways of presenting the character of a city. This project is accompanying my final thesis for my BA degree at the EVTEK Institute of Art and Design.
Included on the page is the project 12 steps to Helsinki - a series of photographs taken 12 steps from the signs marking the administrative boundaries of the city of Helsinki creating an interesting image of the city´s periphery.

In August 2007 I've held a presentation of the project within the Helsinki Summer School - a three-week academic event organised every August by the nine universities in the Helsinki area. The collaboration resulted in 18 new posts in the Place Blog created by students of the Planning a Growing Urban Region course.

Completed: December 2006 - Helsinki, Finland
Title: Nordic VJ Meeting
Media: digital photography
Client: PixelACHE Festival of Electronic Art and Subcultures
Comments: The shooting for this photo was arranged on a regular busstop in Tapanila, Helsinki. Lighting were two lamps 1Kw each and the electricity is supplied by a 4Kw generator. The photograph will be used for materials of the 2007 PixelACHE Festival in Helsinki. The setting of this picture relates to the theme of this year´s festival which is Nordic VJ Meeting. The fog-like effect was achieved by using a long shutter on passing cars.

Title: Bergman
Media: logo design
Client: Aino Bergman
Comments: The logo has been designed for a student of the fashion department for a symbolic 100€. According to the brief it was supposed to depict a naked seraph with 3 pairs of wings. Delicate but strong and confident. Despite the nudity details of the body were not to be shown.

Completed: July 2006 - Madrid, Spain
Title: Morir de Amor no es Propio de mi Edad
Media: print, photography
Client: Los Perro Los Gato Teatro
Comments: I designed materials that the young theatre company needed to promote themselves and their new play. Following items were produced:
- poster for the theatre play
- DVD cover
- photographs of actors and play
- company dossier
I have used the actors as models for the poster illustration.

Opening: September 2006 - Badajoz, Spain
Title: Otoño Fotográfico del Bajo Guadiana
Media: 35mm negative / digital
Comments: Four of my photographs were chosen and printed in large format for an outdoor photographic exhibition organised by the Universidad de Extremadura. The photographs are also featured in the exhibition catalogue.

Completed: 4th September 2006 - Madrid, Spain
Title: Chechu Zeta
Media: digital photography, print
Client: Chechu Granado Zambrano
Comments: The idea in this actor´s dossier is to have on each page a posed and stylised photo combined with one or two natural ones. This way I was hoping to create a more true image of Chechu´s personality and help him to present himself in a proffessional context.
Completed: May 2006 - Madrid, Spain
Title: MNSTNCL
Media: typeface
Client: self-published
Comments: Clipping, monospaced, stencil face for outdoor / indoor use. Simple, systematic design in which all letters are built on a square. Closed shapes are avoided to allow easy stencil use.

Completed: March 2006 - Warsaw / Helsinki
Title: Dot Org Boom!
Media: print, web
Client: PixelACHE Festival of Electronic Art and Subcultures
Comments: Although the festival was held in Helsinki due to a health issue I have worked as an art director remotely from Warsaw, Poland. The tasks involved were creating the overall look of the festival for the year 2006 and then basing on that creating the following items, which then were produced and developed by a local graphic designer:
- A1 poster, offset
- flyer, digital
- design for large stickers and bags
- website graphics adjusted to the 2006 look
- cover and layout template for the festival publication

Media: motion design & flash programming
Client: La (Cle) / GrandeGraphix
Comments: The layout of the page was submitted by the design studio La (Cle) more or less in the form it is now on the site. My task was to put everything together in Flash and design and programme the way things move. The project was started in Madrid and completed remotely from Warsaw.
